A dedicated and faithful group of catechists lead young children through the Finding God series published by Loyola Press. This engaging series is diverse in its offerings of: an attractive and age-appropriate text, art lessons, online activities, fantastic teachers manuals, and parent resources. We aim to keep class sizes between 6-12 children per catechist. We meet on Wednesdays from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. at the Faith Formation Center – the school building at Ss. Cyril & Methodius. The building offers comfortable classrooms as well as the Aquinas Conference Room – a room full of resources, a smart board, and a small kitchenette. Our Director of Faith Formation visits each class at least twice per year – for an Adoration prayer lesson (In Church) and for the Archdiocesan Safeguarding God’s Family curriculum. We are grateful to end each weekly class session with prayer in Church, from 5:15 – 5:30.
Children in 2nd grade prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist using the God’s Gift series published by Loyola Press. We currently have two second grade classes in the RE program, and will join the 2nd graders from Christ Child Academy for special activities in direct preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion.
We often receive calls from parents whose children haven’t had the opportunity to enroll in Religious Education classes from grade 1. For these children, we offer an overview of the Catholic Faith called Bridges to Faith. After participating in this introductory year, children are ready to join their grade level the following year. Children in this program are also frequently participating in special sessions to prepare for reception of the Sacraments.
